Outta time, scope, and we fixed that already – Is there a Disconnect
Constantly we hear that application of accessibility is getting better and things are improving, but is it really the case? Over the last three years the Australian Web Awards has examined entries from wide range of sites across Australia. During this time period, the awards have measuring, via expert peer review, the quality of visual design, user experience, accessibility, html/css development and content. As expected the quality level of the web is improving year after year. However in the area of accessibility this is not the case, it’s distinctly going backwards. Gary will summarise the common real world accessibility issues the Australian Web Awards have revealed; from what the web community considers to be it’s best work. He will lead a discussion into why we have this issue, drawing on his own professional experience as a previous front-end developer and now user experience consultant at the coal-face of accessibility compliance.
