Web accessibility for an ageing population
Presented by:
Andrew Arch,
Assistant Director, Web Policy - Accessibility at Australian Government Information Management Office
While we’re encouraging and expecting people to do more online, Australia’s population is ageing. However, older people are less likely to be online and more likely to have a disability. Will new technologies revolutionise participation by this group? What is the connection between ageing and disability? “I just don’t see / hear / remember / move as well as I used to” is a common reaction. How can we do more to affect accessibility for a group of people whom don’t recognise themselves as having a disability? Andrew will discuss his work with the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) and the unique insights he brings from his work on the W3C WAI-AGE project in looking for solutions for older Australian web users.
