Mat has been involved in the web accessibility domain since 2000. He participated in the W3C Web Content Accessibility Working Group from 2000 until 2005 and was involved with various committees with Blind Citizens Australia from 2000 until 2007.
He is also a director of NV Access, and have been since 2007 when he helped to found the not-for-profit organisation in 2007. NV Access supports the development of NVDA, a free windows screen reader for the blind.
Mat has been a principle domain specialist in accessibility for Telstra since 2000 working in a technical and business advocacy capacity. He lead Telstra’s Centre for Accessibility R&D unit from late 2003 until 2006. Mat has also been involved in organising the OZeWAI conference since 2005 and have presented annually since 2001.
His aim now is to focus on more inclusive mainstream products via a design and user experience approach rather than mere standards compliance, and through his ongoing studies in postgraduate law and business administration be a force for change in human rights.
